From Bystander to Upstander: Advocacy in ActionHow do we move beyond the moral distress of witnessing or participating in the impact of our biases? In this session, we will explore strategies for moving from being a passive bystander to actively operating as an upstander as a way to improve learning and clinical environments.
Learning ObjectivesAt the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
- Recognize the importance of the "Bystander Effect" and its relevance to professional environments
- Identify microaggressions when they happen in clinical and educational settings
- Develop a real-time approach to becoming an active bystander ("upstander")
- Empower learners and colleagues to move beyond the "Bystander Effect" and into action
