Fernando A. Huyke, B.S. is a fourth-year medical student at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, currently participating in an orthopaedic surgery research fellowship at the TRIA Orthopaedics Center in Minnesota. Originally from Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, he graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of Notre Dame, where he held a variety of teaching positions including biology lab teaching assistant, organic chemistry tutor, and science tutor for Notre Dame Athletics. He then started medical school at Feinberg School of Medicine, where he continued his passion for education by participating in the student curriculum review committee as well as in the Chicago Youth Programs tutoring service. His clinical interest revolves around orthopaedic surgery, a field in which he hopes to practice in the future. He has published multiple times in orthopaedic literature under direction of Dr. Michael Terry and Dr. Vehniah Tjong. Fernando is particularly passionate about teaching his peers, which is why most recently he decided to merge his interests in medical education and orthopaedic surgery to create an extracurricular case-based lecture series geared towards teaching students in the health sciences foundational orthopaedic surgery concepts. He continues to work on his lectures and hopes to grow and expand his project in the future.
